The Transition to SHA: A Step by Step Guide for Kenyan HR Managers

If your HR office currently feels like a scene from a survival movie, you are not alone. Between the 2.75% math and the ghost of NHIF past, the transition to the Social Health Authority (SHA) has us all needing a strong cup of Kericho tea.

But take a breath. We have the February 2026 survival map right here.

1. The Digital Handshake: Portal Activation

First, visit the SHA Employer Portal. If you have not moved your team from the old NHIF system, do it now. Think of it as moving house. You do not want your employees’ health benefits left in a cardboard box on the sidewalk.

2. The Great Onboarding

You must register every employee and their dependents. Yes, even that one intern who still has not figured out the printer. Without this, their access to Level 4-6 hospitals is essentially a 404 Error.

3. The Math (Do Not Cry)

Gone are the days of flat scales. The new law of the land is a flat 2.75% of gross salary.

  • The Floor: KES 300.

  • The Ceiling: Non-existent. Sorry, C-Suite!

4. The "Do Not Be Late" Date

Remit by the 9th of every month. Missing this is not just an oops. It is a 2% penalty. And let’s be honest, prison orange is not your color.

The Emotional Core: Beyond the spreadsheets, this is about ensuring your team is covered when life happens. When an employee’s child falls ill, your compliance is their peace of mind.

Stop Stressing, Start Automating!

Do not let SHA compliance turn your hair gray. Let FaidiHR handle the heavy lifting, the math, and the filings for you.
